Quilt "Lisboa"

This quilt is an ode to Lisbon and the city’s colors and azulejos patterns.

The azulejos, the building’s colors under the sun, the sun itself and Lisbon’s forest.

The triangles are made of tiny patchworks of naturally dyed scraps, like the pieces of our past lives that us, foreigners and immigrants living in the city, are trying to piece back together, mixing the old and the new.

All my quilts represent a specific moment of my life: I started this quilt while I was on a major creativity crisis, not knowing what to do with all my ideas. So I started assembling tiny scraps of fabrics, turning them into triangles and squares, reproducing the classic quilt pattern called “hourglass”, like someone trying to stick back the pieces of its life - and creativity - back.

One triangle after another and getting inspired by artists and their art around me, this quilt started to come to life and I enjoyed every minute with it, and now it’s time for it to live its own life in a new home.

Quilt “Lisboa”

Mainly dyed with eucalyptus leaves and bark, mixed with thrifted printed fabrics, and naturally dyed scraps from the studio.

The border is screen-printed with different mordant and eucalyptus dyes.

The back is a mix of screen-printed, naturally dyed and thrifted printed fabrics.
